Confessions and Tricks: Measure for Measure and the Talmud. With Dr. Yair Lipshitz – SOLD OUT

Join Dr Lipshitz for an engaging exploration of the play’s themes. Lipshitz, a professor of theater at Tel Aviv University, will lead a discussion about measure for measure – the phrase’s literal meaning and history, as well as the moral and religious questions that emerge from this play. Can Measure for Measure still be considered a comedy? Together, we’ll read excerpts of the play alongside a Talmudic story, examining how comic tricks and dramatic confessions are used for scrutinizing the self. 

וידויים ותעלולים ב”מידה כנגד מידה” ובתלמוד, עם ד”ר יאיר ליפשיץ – סולד אאוט!

הצטרפו לד”ר יאיר ליפשיץ לעיון מרתק במחזהו של שקספיר. ליפשיץ, מרצה לתיאטרון באוניברסיטת תל אביב, יוביל לימוד על מידה כנגד מידה – על ההיסטוריה והמשמעויות של הביטוי, כמו גם על השאלות המוסריות והדתיות שעולות מן המחזה. האם “מידה כנגד מידה” עדיין יכול להיתפס כקומדיה? יחד, נקרא קטעים מן המחזה לצד סיפור תלמודי, על מנת לבחון כיצד וידויים דרמטיים ותעלולים קומיים משמשים על מנת לחקור את העצמי.

Dr. Yair Lipshitz is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Theater Arts in Tel Aviv University. His research examines the various intersections between theatre, performance and Jewish religious traditions. He is the author of several books and articles, the most recent being Theatre & Judaism (Red Globe Press, 2019).
